Todd Aching

A person can have any belief or opinion they want, it’s a free country (for now anyway).  Todd Akin doesn’t agree with abortion, fine, a lot of people don’t.  But when a public official says something as ignorant as he did about how a womans body can defend against becoming pregnant during a “legitimate rape”, was completely idiotic and ill-informed.  I’m not going to get into the technical aspects of what he said, but about him saying those words at all.

Akin has been in public office for 24 years, 12 in the Missouri House and 12 in the U.S. House, he has been in many campaigns and is not an amateur at interviews.  When people in his position “misspeak” it’s one of two things, they are either an idiot, or they are voicing their true opinion/belief.  To me, Akin was expressing both.  His statement on abortion is what he believes, the fact that he said it two weeks after winning the republican primary for a run at the U.S. Senate currently held by Claire McCaskill, makes him a complete idiot.  Now I’ve heard democrats took up republican ballots and voted for Akin because they figured he would be the easiest for Claire to beat…and it turns out they might be correct, but that’s another story.

Republicans in force came out against Akin, asked him to withdraw from the election, it wasn’t a few people, it was nearly everyone.  What does Akin do, he sends out an apology and doubles down by staying in the race.  He actually tried to blame the liberal media for the outrage, which means he is blind, because it was conservatives who were pissed.  A week after his comments in that ill-fated interview, he is still being talked about, and now the liberal media are actually the ones keeping it alive, along with Obama surrogates, by trying to tie Paul Ryan to Akins beliefs.  By staying in the race the guy proved to everyone he is self-serving and thinks his ambition to get to the senate is more important to what Missourians and the country think.  He played right into the hands of the lefties who try to claim conservatives have a “war against women”.  There is a good chance he just handed the election to the person holding the most vulnerable seat in the Senate, Claire, and if she wins, he will deservedly get the blame.

I did not vote for Akin in the primary, the fact that Mike Huckabee was a huge supporter of his, and endorsed him, was enough for me not to vote for him…I am a zero fan of Huckabee.   But since he was the nominee, I was going to vote for him to help get rid of McCaskill, now I will not vote for him under any circumstance.  I have held my nose and voted for people because “this election is so important”, but I will not do that anymore.  I will not sell my soul down the river again.  I sure as Hell won’t vote for Claire, I’ll write someone in, probably John Brunner (who I voted for in the primary), or I’ll check out the libertarian candidate.

Yeah, Todd Akin is sorry excuse for a representative and candidate.  I’m glad I don’t live in his district.
