I think Mitt Romney made a very wise choice for his running mate. In an online survey a month ago, it asked who you thought he should choose…I answered Paul Ryan.
The other options are excellent, and they all have their strong suits, but here is why it couldn’t be any of them.
Rob Portman – From Ohio, clearly would have pandering to a swing state.
Bob McDonnell – From Virginia, home of the first president. No need to have that come up.
Marco Rubio – From Florida, clearly would have pandering to another swing state, and Latinos.
Condoleezza Rice – Clearly pandering to women and blacks.
David Petraeus – Great general, but he took a job working for Obama.
Chris Christie – I think he is too much of a showboat.
Other primary candidates – pandering to another’s fan base.
So, the choice he made was the person I would have picked, Paul Ryan. PR has been in the House for 14 years, he knows how to represent people, he knows the economy, and he is a middle guy who can appeal to the older republicans, and the new generation of conservatives. Mitt Romney was able to keep this very secret, he used his brain in the vetting process, and he didn’t cave to the popular stars, or who the masses thought it should be. No, by picking Ryan, Romney doubled down on the economy, because in this case “It’s the economy, stupid (Obama)”, is a line that really tells it all.
This first big decision for Romney was a very well thought out good one, and to me it is a sign for future decisions should he become our next president…and boy do I hope he does.
